How to Perform the 5 Daily Prayers and Duas

Each prayer (Salah) includes a combination of:

  • Physical movements (standing, bowing, Kneeling with head to the ground)

  • Recitation from the Quran

  • Specific duas during different stages of the prayer.

Before You Begin:

  1. Make Wudu (Ablution):
Cleanse yourself physically (washing hands, face, arms, feet, etc.)

  2. Find Qiblah:
Face the direction of the Kaaba (in Makkah).

  3. Intention (Niyyah):
Silently make the intention in your heart for which prayer you are performing.

General Steps of One Rakat of Salah:

Each prayer is made up of rakats. Here’s one complete unit:

Standing (Qiyam):

  • Recite Surah Al-Fatihah

  • Then another short surah or verse (e.g., Surah Ikhlas)

“Bismillah hir Rahman nir Raheem…”

Bowing (Rukoo):

  • Bend at the waist with hands on knees

  • Recite:
    “Subhaana Rabbiyal Adheem” (3 times)
(Glory be to my Lord, the Almighty)

Standing after Rukoo (Qawmah):

  • Straighten your back and say:
    “Sami’ Allahu liman hamidah”
(Allah hears those who praise Him)
    Then say: “Rabbana lakal hamd”
(Our Lord, to You is all praise)

Kneeling with head to the ground (Sujood):

  • Kneel and touch your forehead and nose to the ground

  • Recite:
    “Subhaana Rabbiyal A’la” (3 times)
(Glory be to my Lord, the Most High)

Sitting (Jalsah):

  • Sit up from Sujood and say:
    “Rabbighfir li”
    (O my Lord, forgive me)

Second Sujood:

  • Perform Sujood again and repeat the same dua.

  • After 2 rakats, sit and recite Tashahhud:

“At-tahiyyatu lillaahi was-salawaatu…”

In the last rakat of each prayer, also recite the Salawat (Darood) on the Prophet and make Dua.

“Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad…”

Finally, end with Tasleem by turning your head:

  • Right: “As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah”

  • Left: “As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah”
